MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The National Weather Service in Memphis has updated its tornado survey from the April 2-5 tornado outbreak across the Mid-South, saying it found 32 tornadoes, including three newly discovered ones.
Among the deadliest was an EF-3 tornado with winds up to 160 mph that continued for nearly 30 miles near Selmer, Tennessee, around 12:30 a.m. April 3. That tornado killed five people and injured 14 as it destroyed homes in McNairy and Hardin counties in Tennessee, NWS said.
Another EF-3 tornado with winds up to 160 mph that stretched 1,200 yards wide and touched down for 40 miles between Marshall County, Mississippi, and Hardeman County, Tennessee, just after 1 a.m. April 3. That tornado killed two people and injured two more, destroying several homes.
An EF-3 tornado that stretched for 25 miles near Lake City, Arkansas, injured eight people.
Three new tornadoes were found in Fort Pillow, Tennessee, southern Tishomingo County, Mississippi, and Osceola, Arkansas. All were relatively weak, NWS said.
