MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis Police say a man has been arrested after a fatal shooting at a club in Hickory Hill.
Police say Keython Johnson, 26, has been arrested in connection with a shooting at Indulge Lounge on Winchester. The shooting happened just after midnight Friday.
According to police, surveillance footage shows Johnson sitting down next to one of the victims at the bar. Police say the two of them began to argue after the victim accidentally brushed up against Johnson while raising his arms.
Memphis Police say Johnson punched the victim, pulled out a gun and shot two people. One of the victims was reportedly able to run away, but police say the other victim fell to the ground.
According to police, Johnson continued to shoot that victim while he was on the ground. The victim died on the scene.
Memphis Police have identified the deceased victim as Lawrence Williams. Police say the other victim went to the hospital in non-critical condition.
The last 24 hours have been difficult for Kenneth Townsend. He lost his best friend of eight years due to gun violence.
“It ain’t really no emotions, like I done cried on my own just sitting in my room,” Townsend said. “That hurt, man. That’s my guy like I said that’s my pops, I called him pops. I look at him like a daddy, man. Like for real that’s how he treated me.”
Williams recently opened his own business called Jimmy’s Wings and for loyal customer like Maurice Thomas this loss hurts.
“I just hate that I don’t know what happened. I hate what happened but I know God got him,” Thomas said. “When you know somebody you talked with them, yes, this hits home because you know that person being all of sudden bam tragedy happens and it really affects you.”
Johnson has been charged with first degree murder, attempted first degree murder and deploying a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony.
His quick arrest has brought a sense of comfort during these difficult times.
“We can all sleep comfortably now. We know what happened, my guy can Rest In Peace. Jimmy, Rest In Peace and the name go forever live on,” Townsend said.
Johnson is expected to be in court Monday morning.
