MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A dog found roaming the Frayser area with a large bucket stuck on its head has found a forever home.
The dog, affectionately named Bucket Head, was adopted Wednesday at the Memphis Animal Shelter on Appling City Cove.

The brindle dog was rescued by animal control officers on January 8 near Watkins and Thomas after someone reported seeing a dog with a plastic container on its head wandering the streets.
A spokesperson for MAS said they have no idea how long the bucket was stuck on his head, but while it was there, the dog had no access to food, water, or fresh air. MAS said officers were able to catch the dog and bring him to the shelter, and another officer was able to remove the bucket.

On Tuesday, MAS put out a plea on Facebook for someone to adopt or foster Bucket Head after he was put on the urgent list due to overcrowding. MAS said once a dog is put on the urgent list, it is at risk of being added to the euthanasia list at any time.
MAS said right now, they are extremely overcrowded in their dog area. In one week alone, they took in an average of 27 dogs a day.
“When we are this full and dogs are coming in this fast, that puts us in the position of having to make euthanasia decisions based on space and capacity for care,” said Katie Pemberton. “When that happens, we lose good dogs, like Bucket Head. Fortunately, Bucket Head did have another hero come to his rescue. But there are a lot more dogs still in need.”

MAS is asking pet lovers to adopt, foster, volunteer, or donate supplies. The city shelter needs dog treats, harnesses, and kennels.
