March is more than just the Madness.
In the south anyway.
March also means spring practice and for the Tigers with this spring, unlike years past. The last four years anyway.
This spring, Ryan Silverfield and offensive coordinator Tim Cramsey tasked with replacing the most storied quarterback in school history. After taking virtually every snap over his four years, Seth Henigan is gone, leaving the QB 1 job… wide open.
While true freshman AJ Hill is getting a lot of pub, the leader, right now is likely to be Nevada transfer Brendon Lewis. Lewis brings to Memphis almost 40 games of game experience to the table at both Colorado and Nevada. But that experience, not the only attribute that Lewis thinks makes him the right guy to step in for Henigan.
“That’s one of the things I bring to the table. But I’m also, I think me being able to use my legs and being a little bit more of a mobile quarterback. That’s something different than Seth, Seth was more of a pro style quarterback. So me being more mobile brings something different to the table,’ Lewis said. “He left really big shoes to fill. He played great. He started four years. Like you said, he played some really good football. I mean, look at him now. He’s shining. Doing what he did in the Senior Bowl and balled out at the combine. So yeah, it’s going to be really big shoes to fill.”>
“He brings a true dual threat to that room,” Cramsey said. “Kid that can stay in the pocket, spin it. A kid we can move the pocket. A kid that we can play some quarterback run with, put some threat on defense.”
