MEMPHIS, Tenn. — An investigation has been launched by the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office after a child was “accidentally” shot on Saturday night.

SCSO was notified by the Department of Children’s Services at about 9:15 p.m. that a five-year-old was in the Methodist Germantown Hospital emergency room suffering from a gunshot wound to the leg.

The child was taken to the hospital by family members in a personal vehicle.

Fortunately, the child is in non-critical condition.

According to detectives, the incident occurred at a residence in the 7900 block of River Mist Drive in southeast Shelby County.

At this time, they said that the shooting appears to be accidental.

However, the investigation is still ongoing.
