MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A man is dead after a shooting in Frayser Sunday afternoon, Memphis Police say.

According to reports, officers responded to the Corning Village Apartments at 1448 Briercrest Lane at 3 p.m. A man was pronounced dead on the scene.

Family members identified the victim as 29-year-old Daniel Jackson.

Jackson’s mother Joan says her son called every day around this same time to check on her.

“I just want my baby back,” Joan said.

Family members remember him as a good guy but have suspicions about the motive behind his death. His aunt Ella Stevenson says the drive-by occurred right outside his home with his children and girlfriend still inside.

“And my thing is why would you just sit there in your car and shoot somebody in the head then turn around and shoot him two more times,” Stevenson said.

Stevenson said she believes this shooting was a backlash from an incident that occurred yesterday.

“They said something about the boy was saying something to him and he walked off but came outside this morning to smoke a cigarette, and the boy pulled up and shot him in the head,” Stevenson said. “He fell to the ground, and he shot him two more times. That’s my nephew, now my nephew is gone.”

Jackson’s girlfriend says they have two children and she’s expecting a third.

There is no suspect information available at this time. This is an ongoing investigation.
