MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A self-admitted serial killer was sentenced to 102 years in prison Thursday for the murder of his pregnant girlfriend and her unborn child.

Joshua Dotson was found guilty in August of killing Jamesha Covson, 19, and her unborn baby in 2020. He will receive 51 years each for both murders.

During the trial, Dotson referred to himself as a “serial killer” and claimed responsibility for three additional murders in 2019 and 2020.

Dotson posted a memorial to Covson on social media after her death, saying “Fly high.” He then called her a “sex worker” in court and claimed she knew about his previous murders, which was his alleged motive for killing her.

“This is one of the saddest situations I’ve seen in my career,” Judge Carlyn Addison said to Dotson. “You will never show remorse for the loss you’ve caused. The jury got it right.”

Dotson likened himself to Michael Myers, the fictional character in the “Halloween” horror movie series. His sentencing came down on October 31.
