MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis Police have identified the suspects in several car break-ins in Midtown, including at a Union Avenue a senior housing facility.
According to MPD, the break-ins at the Union Avenue Baptist Towers and along South Cox Street in Midtown are believed to be related.
Seven Alexander (18), Zeldquan Thomas (19), Marlin Atkins (18), and an unnamed 17-year-old are listed as the alleged suspects.
Residents at the Midtown Senior Living Center say they’re not just tired of the damage caused by the suspects, but tired of feeling unsafe in their homes. At least 10 cars were broken into at the center.
“I don’t like parking over here. This is where they mainly hit. It’s been several times they’ve broken into these cars. Some of them have been broken into two or three times,” said a resident.
This is the same area where several people on South Cox Street in Midtown also reported their windows being smashed. According to reports, just after 11:30 Sunday night, three victims heard a car alarm go off.
They say they saw two men breaking into two vehicles. One of them yelled at the suspects to stop, but that’s when the two men fired shots in the victims’ direction while leaving the scene in a white Jeep Cherokee.
Nothing was reported stolen.
Officers later found the Jeep at the Walgreens on Union and attempted to make a traffic stop, but a pursuit ensued. The chase went into Mississippi and back into Memphis.
Four suspects were caught after a foot pursuit, but police did not name the suspects in that case, only saying they think the break-ins on Cox are related to those at the senior center.
Officers found a backpack with a rifle and handgun inside of it near the Jeep.
Police records also show Atkins told police he was the driver of the Jeep while Thomas and Alexander burglarized cars.

WREG has reached out to Union Avenue Baptist Towers, but they declined to comment on the break-ins.
The suspects are facing multiple burglaries of a vehicle charges, although none has charges related to the shooting on Cox. They will be in court Wednesday.
