Teen allegedly shot committing a robbery arrested again

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A teenager shot while trying to rob someone last fall is facing new charges after he was arrested Thursday at a Hickory Hill apartment complex, authorities say.

The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office said Jonmerquai Davenport, 18, was a person of interest in an aggravated assault case and had several felony warrants when they picked him up in the 3200 block of Cosmic Circle.

They said Davenport was in possession of a stolen weapon and marijuana and admitted to being inside a BMW he knew was stolen.

In November, MPD released pictures of a stolen blue Infiniti Q60 that two individuals used to rob two men at a gas station in the 1600 block of Getwell.

The Infiniti was recovered two days later with several bullet holes at a hotel on South Perkins, and a CrimeStoppers tip led investigators to Davenport.

Davenport is also accused of participating in three violent robberies within a few hours of each other on October 16.

Investigators said one of the robberies happened at the Z Market on Winchester, where a victim said he was able to wrestle a gun away from one of the suspects before being shot. Police said less than an hour later, Davenport was dropped off at Methodist Hospital with a gunshot wound to his hand.

Davenport was arrested twice in June of 2023 and charged with evading arrest, car theft, burglary of a vehicle, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, possession of a vehicle programmer, and an illegal Glock switch.

In January, a warrant was issued for Davenport’s arrest after he failed to appear in court.

He is scheduled to go before a judge on Monday.
