MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A self-proclaimed serial killer convicted of killing his pregnant ex-girlfriend and her unborn baby last year pleaded guilty Friday to killing three more people.

Joshua Dotson pleaded guilty to three counts of first-degree murder for the deaths of Divieon Parker, Renita Bennett and Reginald Anderson, in addition to three counts of reckless endangerment with a deadly weapon.

He was sentenced to 159 years in prison on those crimes.

Dotson already had been sentenced to 102 years in prison in October after his conviction in the murder of Jamesha Covson, 19, and her unborn baby in 2020.

During that trial, Dotson referred to himself as a “serial killer” and claimed responsibility for three additional murders in 2019 and 2020.

Dotson’s full prison sentence for the five murders and other charges totals 261 years.

“While no amount of time in prison will bring the victims back to their loved ones, we are content that he will never be a threat to our community again,” said lead prosecutor Regina Lucreziano.

Jamesha Covson was shot on June 12, 2020 in the 1200 block of Quinn Avenue near Bellevue Boulevard and South Parkway East. Investigators said Dotson became angry with Covson and fired a gun through her closed door.

Dotson was added to the state’s most wanted list and was captured in Nashville six days later.

At the time, Marshals also said Dotson was also wanted in another deadly shooting that happened May 24, 2020 near Jesse Turner Park on South Bellevue. Reginald Anderson and Renita Bennett were the victims in that shooting.

A third homicide involving Dotson happened Nov. 17, 2019, at the South Memphis Market at 1430 Elvis Presley Blvd. Divieon Parker, 18, was found with gunshot wounds in the parking lot and pronounced dead at the scene, MPD said.
