MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis Police say a teen is dead after a shooting downtown near Tom Lee Park.
Memphis Police say officers responded to a shots fired call at Riverside Drive and Beale Street at 6:46 p.m. on Sunday.
Police say officers found a victim who had been shot. He was pronounced dead on the scene.
Memphis Police believe both the victim and suspect were teens between the ages of 15-18 years old.
Riverside Drive had been closed on Sunday for the Foodees Food and Culture Festival at Tom Lee Park.
A witness described the moments she heard gunshots.
“I was standing on the basketball court, just watching my children run around and play, and I immediately looked up, ran and yelled for my kids and the moment I had my kids, I looked up and saw there were two other officers running with their guns in their hands,” she said.
The woman said she saw the victim lying in the road.
“It’s very sad because we come to this park a lot. Like, this is my children’s favorite park. We come here a lot, and there’s never no crime,” she said. “My children now know what’s going on because they said they saw other children running, screaming for their mom as well.”
