MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A woman is dead after a shooting in the Wolfchase area Tuesday night.

Memphis Police responded to a shooting call at the Target store on US Highway 64 at 7:42 p.m.

The woman was taken to St. Francis Hospital – Bartlett in critical condition but did not survive her injuries.

Police say the exact location of the shooting is undetermined, but preliminary information indicates the shooting happened inside a vehicle.

According to police, a man and a child were also inside the vehicle. The man reportedly drove to Target and called police after the shooting.

“Nothing happened involving Target,” said Sergeant Brownlee. “The shooting occurred inside of the vehicle and the gentlemen drove here and they called the police.”

We reached out to Memphis Police to find out who pulled the trigger and what led up to the shooting. Police say the investigation is ongoing.

They want to remind everyone that if you have a weapon of any sort please be responsible.

When we reached out to Target for comment, a spokesperson said, “Our hearts go out to the family impacted by this tragic incident. We’ll refer questions to law enforcement and will provide anything needed for their investigation.”

According to reports, the woman was a teacher at Porter-Leath.

In a statement to WREG, the school says they are “deeply saddened by the senseless loss of one of our teachers earlier this week. We are supporting their family during this time, as well as providing resources to guide the children and families from the teacher’s classroom, and our staff, through this time of grief.”
