TUNICA COUNTY, Miss. — One suspect is in custody and another is still wanted in connection with a Sunday night homicide in Tunica County, Mississippi.
Mario Lester Jr., 17, is a suspect who remains at large. He is wanted for First Degree Murder and is considered armed and dangerous.
The mother of Makenzie Thomas, 18, is grieving the loss of her son, who was killed in Tunica near the intersection of Carroll Street and Edwards Avenue.
Whitney Thomas says her son and the two suspects are related and hung out together almost daily.
“I feel like I raised him the correct way. I guided him. I tried my best,” said Whitney Thomas.
“You could spot him out a mile away ’cause he had that certain walk, that build, and you know who he was from a long distance that’s Makenzie coming down the street,” said Thomas.
His mother says he was just a short walk away from home.
“They took my baby away right here at this place. I was here,” said Thomas. “He took his last breath. I was here his momma was here.”
Thomas says her child was a loving child and the suspects took Makenzie away from her.
“I don’t know what triggered him to proceed in what he proceeded in was taking my baby away. I just really want justice and him to turn himself in,” said Thomas.
The sheriff’s office has not released information on the suspect who is in custody.
